Visit to VNMHA for on-site training on surface meteorological observation (2022)

From 12 to 16 December 2022, a technical expert from WMO/RIC Tsukuba and one from JMA headquarters paid a visit to the Vietnam Meteorological and Hydrological Administration (VNMHA) to provide on-site training on surface meteorological observation as part of the Project for Strengthening Capacity in Weather Forecasting and Flood Early Warning System by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This followed a period of VNMHA training held at WMO/RIC Tsukuba in July 2019.

The visitors gave presentations on subjects including traceability, meteorological instrument maintenance and quality control of surface observation data at JMA, with online contribution from JMA expert in Japan.

Trainees both from VNMHA headquarters and regional offices were hosted to promote wider expertise in surface meteorological observation. The experts also visited VNMHA's calibration laboratory and held discussions with staff there.

The training is considered to have contributed to the mutual development of meteorological services provided by VNMHA and JMA.
